Great News! Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Ireland

28 September 2022

On 28 September 2022, 18 new members from all over the world were inducted into the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame (IACE HOF) in Cork, Ireland.

It is a great pleasure to welcome nine European adult education professionals, including a Hungarian, Professor András Benedek, among the new inductees.

The Hall of Fame honors leaders in the fields of continuing education and adult learning and serves as a record of inspiration for the next generation of continuing education leaders.

Annually, adult and continuing education leaders from around the world are selected for induction into the IACE Hall of Fame.

These individuals reflect the great diversity of adult and continuing education practice and scholarship and the increasingly global leadership community that constitutes the IACE Hall of Fame.

The first induction ceremony into the IACE Hall of Fame was held in 1996, marking a significant milestone in the history of twentieth-century ALE. Since the first induction in 1996, 404 members from all over the world have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Following a number of international meetings, a subgroup was founded in Europe in 2016 known as the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame, European Chapter (HOFE). HOFE has 71 members, and the number of living members is 56.

Since its founding, the European Chapter had been co-chaired by André Schläfli (Switzerland) and Sturla Bjerkaker(Norway) who were succeeded in September 2022 by Arne Carlsen (Denmark) and Éva Farkas (Hungary).
