24 January will be the International Day of Adult Educators
At the closing session of the Szigeti Tóth János Memorial Conference, held in Budapest on 6 November 2025, organizers announced that, based on the proposal of the Hungarian Folk High School Society, 24 January will become the International Day of Adult Educators starting in 2026.
Why 24 January?
This is the date of the UNESCO-supported International Day of Education, designated by the UN General Assembly in 2018. The Hungarian Folk High School Society proposed celebrating adult educators on the same day to strengthen the recognition of the profession, enhance cooperation, and raise public awareness of adult learning.
The proposal has been endorsed by the European Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA), meaning that across Europe we will join UNESCO’s event under the title of the International Day of Adult Educators.
